2-year-old found riding battery-operated car on street early Sunday morning

Car similar to white battery-operated BMW X6 car 2-year-old was found riding.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A 2-year-old was found riding a white battery-operated BMW X6 in the middle of the night in Sumter County this past weekend.

According to an incident report, the child was driving down Rogers Avenue on Sunday, September 11 at around 1:55 a.m., wearing nothing but jogging pants and a diaper.

A woman saw the young boy and notified law enforcement.

Authorities brought the child to the sheriff’s office and contacted the Department of Social Services.

While waiting for DSS, deputies launched a search for the child’s family. Investigators found small tire tracks at a home on Rogers Avenue, the report revealed. It was there a deputy found the boy’s parents.

The parents told authorities they put their son down to sleep around 9 p.m. Saturday night and he “must have unlocked the door and left the house.”

“Our investigation so far does not indicate any wrongdoing on the part of the parents,” according to sheriff’s office spokesman Ken Bell. “This appears to be simply a case of an industrious 2-year-old slipping out in the middle of the night,” Bell added.

The child was released to his parents unharmed. DSS is continuing to investigate.
