NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Church-going helped Charleston earn the nickname the “Holy City,” but a church without a steeple on the skyline recognized local first responders with a special “Strength to serve” day.
Awaken Church is a church plant in North Charleston, with a goal of reaching out to all kinds of people.
On Sunday, September 11, the church honored the anniversary of 9/11 with the help of a high-profile elected official and a well-respected leader in the community.
Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and North Charleston Police Chief Eddie Driggers shared testimony and expressed appreciation for the women and men who protect the Lowcountry and the USA.
“We want to take a special opportunity to honor and appreciate the local heroes in our city, as well as, their families and loved ones that stand by them daily, ” said Pastor Brandon Bowers.
