CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)– South Carolina Highway Patrol will be increasing enforcement along a stretch of I-26 from Charleston to Lexington County.

There have been 13 fatalities on that stretch since January.

6 counties are coming together to join efforts with the SC Highway Patrol including Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester County.

Offenses will focus on reckless driving, speeding, following to closely, and unlawful lane changes.

The increased patrol started on Tuesday which is just a day after the end of the 100 deadly days of summer. It will continue for two to three weeks.

There were 649 statewide traffic fatalities from January to August of 2015. This year, that number has increased to 653 fatalities.

But the breakdown between the counties shows Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester County have had less traffic fatalities this year compared to 2015.

Lance Corporal Matt Southern says you can report aggressive drivers by dialing *HP (*47) on your cell phone.
