SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Witnesses called 911 after they saw a vicious dog attacking children waiting for the school bus in Spartanburg, Thursday morning.
Mary Holmes says the animal charged at her six-year-old grandson and other children including a little girl.
“He mauled her on her neck,” says Holmes, “He was just mauling these kids.”
However, an Animal Control officer says the children were playing with the dog and that it was not vicious but was actually very playful.
All of this happened at a bus stop on Collins Avenue around 7am.
Two children were treated for minor injuries, but officers say they were not bitten. A bystander had restrained the dog using a belt as a collar by the time officers had arrived.
One child received a scratch on the chin by the dog and another was knocked down by the dog and bit his lip during the fall but was not bitten or scratched by the dog.
The dog has been taken to the Spartanburg Humane Society where he will be quarantined for 10 days and officers are trying to identify the owner as the dog did not have a collar or a chip.
