Man arrested after breaking into a Dollar General Store

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A man is behind bars after burglarizing a Dollar General Store in West Ashley, according to Charleston County Sheriff’s officials. On Sunday, September 4, deputies responded to the call from two store employees who said they heard what sounded like drilling on the roof of the store.

Deputies arrived just before 10:00 p.m., and found the Michael Cannon Polensky,38, behind the counter going into the cash register.

The store employees were hiding in the office at the time. When police arrived, Polensky ran to the back of the store and back up to the roof.

Deputies established a perimeter until additional units and a Charleston Police Department K9 Unit arrived on scene to assist. Polensky then climbed down an oak tree and was taken into custody.

The City of Charleston Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide assistance with getting up on the rooftop to clear it and collect evidence.

Polensky was taken into custody and charge with burglary. A roll of coins worth $10 were found on him during a search incident to an arrest.

He was taken to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.
