Charleston, SC (WCBD)– On Thursday, a welcome home parade was held in honor of Raven Saunders. Saunders is a Burke High School graduate who competed in the shot-put at the Olympics in Rio.
The parade began at Burke High School and ended at Marion Square. Thousands lined the nearly 2 mile route with American flags and signs, chanting Saunders’ name and U.S.A.
Many who attended say they were proud to support an athlete who represented Charleston so well. They also said that they believe it won’t be the last time they see Saunders compete for gold, and the 2020 is her time to win.
