NCPD officer released from hospital following crash by drunk driver

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — North Charleston Police Officer Andrew Turner has been released from the hospital, after being hit by a drunk driver on I-26 during a traffic stop.

Wendy Burnett, 24, is facing a felony DUI charged, after crashing into officer turner on Saturday night on I-26 westbound near the Aviation Avenue exit.

Following the crash, Turner was taken to MUSC with non-life threatening injuries.

NCPD officials says Turner has been employed with the department for 8 years.

The incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
