Highway Patrol Trooper released from hospital following crash

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a traffic crash involving a marked South Carolina Highway Patrol vehicle. The single vehicle crash happened on Sunday evening, just after 10:00 p.m on Cooper Store Road, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

The SCHP Trooper was travelling from Highway 176 on Cooper Store Road near Queenie Road heading towards Monck Corner, according to Sheriff’s officials. The Trooper was on the way to back up another Trooper who was in a vehicle pursuit. The Trooper was driving a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria marked cruiser and lost control near Queenie Road. The vehicle rolled several times, entrapping the Trooper.

The Trooper was extricated from the cruiser and transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated. The Trooper’s name is not being released at this time.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is working this crash for the SCHP in order to avoid any conflict of interest. The SCHP works nearly all crashes in the unincorporated areas of Berkeley County except for vehicles that are owned by a State of South Carolina law enforcement agency.
