Police officer struck by drunk driver in good condition at MUSC

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The North Charleston Police Officer struck by a drunk driver in North Charleston is recovering at the Medical University of South Carolina.

According to MUSC spokeswoman Heather Woolwine, Andrew Turner, 32, is in good condition.

Turner was making a traffic stop on Saturday, August 13 on I-26 Westbound near Aviation Avenue exit, when Wendy Burnett, 24, hit the patrol car he was driving.  The accident caused a chain reaction causing Turner’s car to slam into another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was not injured, according to S.C. Highway Patrol.

Burnett is charged with felony DUI. She was released on $25,000 bond.

On Facebook, many community members reached out to Turner offering support and prayers.  The injured officer said “Thank you for the kind words!”
