Woman faces felony DUI after striking officer on I-26

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — A woman is facing a felony DUI charged, after crashing into a North Charleston police officer, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol. The crash happened at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday on I-26 Westbound near Aviation Avenue exit in North Charleston.

Andrew Turner, 32,  was making a traffic stop on the Interstate shoulder, when Wendy Burnett, 24, hit the police patrol car, which slammed into the other vehicle. Officials say the officer is recovering at MUSC with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was not injured, according to S.C. Highway Patrol.

Burnett has been released on $25,000 bond.
