Good Samaritan offers free apartment to family who lost their home in a fire

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCBD) — An unidentified person is offering the family who lost their Hanahan home in a fire a free place to live on Daniel Island until they find a new place to live, according to Hanahan Fire Chief Joseph Bowers.

On Saturday, August 13, the Hanahan Dispatch received a call about a fire at a multi-story building on Crossbill Trail near Kestrel Trail in Hanahan. The call came in just before 2:00 p.m. When several Hanahan Fire Department crews and Goose Creek Rural Fire Department crews arrived, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

Crews began an offensive attack and protected the adjacent house. Crews were able to extinguish the fire.  One firefighter was transported to the hospital due to heat exhaustion, but has since been released. No other people were injured from the fire.

No word on what started the fire.

During the incident, the North Charleston Fire Department covered for all three Hanahan districts.

A neighbor has setup a donation location for the family who lost their home. The donation center is located at 1454 Crossbill Trail.
