Police identify I-526 shooting victim in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — North Charleston Police are investigating a reported shooting on the interstate. Police say the man who was shot gave them conflicting stories so they are not sure if it happened on I-526 or I-26. They are investigating to nail down a specific crime scene.

Around 3:34 a.m on Wednesday, an officer on patrol noticed a gray pickup truck driving down Northwoods Blvd. with a rear flat tire. The vehicle pulled in to Roper North woods Emergency Room parking lot. The officer located the driver suffering from a gunshot wound and his truck with bullet holes. He has been identified as Donte Brown, 26.

In a police report, North Charleston Police say the officer on scene of the shooting found 14 rounds that had hit the vehicle, along with a caliber glock with a double extended magazine in it.

Police say Brown was being treated at Northwoods Hospital for his injury, but later transported to Trident Medical Center.

In an incident report, North Charleston Police say a woman arrived at the hospital, saying she was friends with Brown and did not know what was going on . Police say she was very uncooperative during the investigation, and said her vehicle was also struck in the driver side rear door.

The incident remains under investigation.
