The son of two-time Olympian Matt Centrowitz, Matthew finished fourth in the 1500m in his Olympic debut at the 2012 London Games. In 2011, he won the NCAA 1500m title, as well as his first U.S. 1500m title. At Worlds, he won 1500m bronze in 2011 and 1500m silver in 2013. At 2016 World Indoors, he became the first U.S. male runner to win a 1500m gold medal.
Both Matthew and his father, Matt, were track and field All-Americans at the University of Oregon.
Matthew’s sister, Lauren, was a long-distance runner at Stanford University and qualified for 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
He is a fan of the Carolina Panthers. He did the Dab dance after a race in North Carolina to honor Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
Fun Fact: Matthew Centrowitz pranked fans on April Fools’ Day of 2015 by announcing he would run in the Olympic marathan trials.
