NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – North Charleston’s baseball dominance in the South continues with a 3rd consecutive World Series championship by the city’s Dixie Majors team.
After winning the State of South Carolina title, North Charleston headed to Ozark, AL to compete against 10 state champions from throughout the South in a five day, double elimination tournament. Throughout the tournament, the North Charleston team won by large margins, even invoking the mercy rule.
North Charleston went into the title game undefeated for play against the home team of Ozark. With the combination of hot bats and the ace pitching of Gabe Austin, North Charleston took the title in seven innings with a 6-0 win.
At seven World Series victories, North Charleston remains the winningest city of World Series championships and the only city to bring home three consecutive titles during 60 years of Dixie Baseball.
“We could not have had a better group of young men representing the City of North Charleston, and I extremely proud of their efforts on and off the field,” said North Charleston Recreation Director Ed Barfield. “Throughout the tournament, they played unbelievably good ball, but more importantly, they played as a team. This group will forever be remembered as one of the greatest Dixie Major teams.”
