Meet the Olympic athletes: Ashton Eaton

Born January 21, 1988 in La Pine, Ore, Ashton Eaton lettered in football, track and field and wrestling in high school. He completed his first decathlon as a senior in high school.

Eaton made it all look easy at the London 2012 Olympics. He recorded the highest marks in the 100m, 400m and long jump on his way to claiming the gold medal.

At the 2015 World Championships, Eaton broke his own decathlon world record to win his second world championship.

2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, he made a statement by breaking the decathlon world record, less than two months before the Olympics. His marks in the 100m and the long jump were the best ever recorded in a decathlon.

Eaton wears a “cooling hood” to help him recover between the 10 events of the decathlon.

He is married to Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton. The couple met as teammates at the University of Oregon. They collect Christmas ornaments when they travel. Once they have kids, they plan on setting up a tree with all of their ornaments and reminiscing about the places they visited.

The opening ceremony for the Rio Olympic games is August 5.
