National Mutt Day encourages people to rescue a shelter pet

Sunday, July 31 is “National Mutt Day”, a celebration of mixed breed dogs. On Facebook, News 2 asked viewers to send in photos of the beloved mutts they are celebrating with, and the cute photos kept rolling in. National Mutt Day started in 2005 to bring awareness about mixed breed dogs in shelters across the country. The site says mutts tend to be healthier and live longer than pure-breds, and the day is meant to encourage people to visit their local shelter and adopt.
