Imagine being fined for something you did 17 years ago, that’s what one Lowcountry man is facing.
Michael Patterson says he received letter from Henderson County, North Carolina about a ticket he got back in 1999. It said his South Carolina license would be suspended if a $218 ticket plus a $200 late fee isn’t paid by September 20. “I’ve lived in this house like 18 or 19 years. It’s not like I’m moving all over,” Patterson said “I thought it was all cleared up,” Patterson added.
Problem is, he said he did pay 17 years ago by money order but after so long, he receipt is long gone. “It really just threw my wife and I for a jolt,” Patterson said.
He says this is the first notification he’s gotten.
