Coroner identifies moped driver killed in July crash

LADSON, S.C. (WCBD) — The Charleston County Deputy Coroner has identified the victim of the deadly moped collision on Ladson Road back in July. Philip McDonnell, 58, was hit by a car at the 9400 block of SC HWY 78 at 8:40 a.m. on July 28, according to the Charleston County Coroner.

According to initial reports, the moped operator, while traveling east bound on HWY 78, changed lanes and hit the back of a black 2011 Toyota vehicle. The Toyota was stopped in rush hour traffic when the collision occurred. The moped operator was not wearing helmet and died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

This accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
