MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – A $10 million federal grant will help upgrade a short line railroad connecting Horry County, South Carolina, and Columbus County, North Carolina.

U.S. Rep. Tom Rice announced in a news release Tuesday that the U.S. Transportation Department awarded the money to Horry County.

The roughly 90-mile line runs between Mullins, South Carolina and Chadbourn, North Carolina, and south to Myrtle Beach. R.J. Corman Railroad Group bought it last year.

It was previously operated as the Carolina Southern which had to shutter operations five years ago because bridges along the line failed to meet federal standards.
