CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Charleston Police arrested a suspect in a downtown Charleston murder that took place in June.
Lucas Ward, 25, of North Charleston is charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He was being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Authorities say on Thursday, June 30 after receiving a call about a man possibly being shot on Flood Street, officers found Travis Coaxum suffering from a gunshot wound on the back porch of a Flood Street residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say through tips from the community, detectives were able to identity Ward as the suspect.
We’re told robbery is believed to have been the motive for this incident.
Ward was taken into custody on Friday in a Line Street apartment. He was taken into custody without incident.
