NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — A week after authorities learned marble headstones were removed from a Colleton County cemetery, police in North Charleston are investigating a theft of their own.
According to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor, at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, July 22, two maintenance workers arrived to work at Carolina Memorial Gardens and found a marble wall casing and name plate removed from a vault. Authorities could not provide any other details and asked News 2 to contact the business for more information.
On July 14 authorities in Cottageville launched an investigation after the relative of a man buried at Heavenly Rest Cemetery reported his relative’s headstone stolen. Officials say at least 12 of the markers found to be stolen were made of granite. The crooks also took the vases off the graves as well.
Investigators do not know if the two crimes are related.
