Former Orangeburg County deputy charged with on-the-job sexual assault

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) — A former deputy charged following a sexual assault in Orangeburg County Judge faced a bond court judge on Wednesday, July 20.  Bond was set for Dereck Johnson at $10,000

.Johnson was charged with felony misconduct in office.

The victim told attorney Justin Bamberg the incident happened when deputies responded to a domestic call in Cordova on June 12. We’re told one deputy remained outside with the woman’s boyfriend while another was inside with the woman. Deputy allegedly threatened to send her boyfriend to jail unless she performed a sex act.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said the deputy was fired June 13 when the allegation came to his attention. The State Law Enforcement Division is also investigating.
