(WTNH) — Prayers and support quickly spread across social media after news spread that at least 80 people were killed when a truck slammed into a crowd of Bastille Day revelers in Nice, France.

The truck, loaded with weapons drove onto a sidewalk for more than a mile, plowing through people who had gathered to watch fireworks late Thursday.

Senator Lindsey Graham issued a statement following the terrorist attack in Nice, France.

“This was yet another heart-breaking and senseless act of terrorism.  The demented individuals who follow causes which justify acts such as these must be defeated.

Our prayers will remain with the victims, the families and the French people. France is one of our oldest and closest allies, and our nations must remain united in confronting the very real and dangerous threats we both face.”

The hashtag #PrayForNice began trending quickly after the scale of the tragedy became clear.
