Escaped SC inmate captured Thursday

SIX MILE (WSPA) An inmate who walked away from a work detail in Pickens County was captured Thursday morning.

Casey William Gillespie, 25, was found in a car that was being driven by a woman on Main Street in Six Mile around 7:00 a.m. Thursday. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office says deputies stopped the car which had been under surveillance.

Gillespie was serving a 90-day sentence for charges including DUI and drug paraphernalia when deputies say he left a job Monday night, cutting grass on Love and Care Road in Six Mile.

He was due to be released from jail in two weeks. Gillespie is back at the Pickens County Detention Center where he will face the charge of escape.

A Pickens County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said no charges are pending against the driver.
