FORT COLLINS, Colo. (WCBD) — An airman reported missing from Shaw Air Force Base has been arrested in Colorado.
According to WLTX, Airman First Class Taylor Phinney was picked up by officers in Ft. Collins, Colorado on July 6. He’s facing desertion charges.
Authorities say Phinney did not report to work on June 21. His 1997 red Kia Sephia was found at a Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on June 23.
At the time of Phinney’s disappearance, Lt. Col. Joshua Close, Phinney’s squadron commander, said the 20th Communications Squadron was “deeply concerned” about the missing Airman.
WLTX adds once Phinney is transferred back to Air Force custody, he will be put into pre-trial confinement until he’s officially charged. He is also expected to be charged with giving a false statement to his unit.
Phinney’s transfer back to Air Force custody is expected next week.
