Charleston Co. Coroner holds inquest on toddler’s death

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten is holding an inquest into the death of a toddler who died three years ago.

Elijah Washington, 2, died on March 19, 2013.

Bryan Okeith Seabrook, 25, of Mount Pleasant was charged with homicide by child neglect in the death of Washington.

According to court documents, Seabrook took the unresponsive toddler to East Cooper Medical Center. We were told the child was in full cardiac arrest when they arrived and died.

Documents state that a witness saw Seabrook strike the child. According to the Charleston County Coroner, he died of blunt force trauma.

Seabrook bonded out of the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on a $75,000 bond on October 25, 2014

The inquest is set to take place on Tuesday, July 12, at 9 a.m. at the Charleston County Courthouse located on Broad Street.
