NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The North Charleston police officer who was hospitalized at the Medical University of South Carolina for gunshot wounds, following a standoff on Monday has been released, according to North Charleston Deputy Chief David Cheatle.
Officer Wayne Pavlischeck was being treated at MUSC on Tuesday morning.
According to the police report, the suspect was trying to run people over with his car before firing shots at police.
North Charleston Police received the call around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, about a white car speeding through the Northwoods Estates neighborhood.
Officers arrived on scene and surrounded a house where the car was parked.
Soon after, police say the suspect came to a window on the second floor and began shooting at police.
North Charleston Police Deputy Chief says Officer Pavlischeck was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
The suspect then came out the front door, continuing to shoot at police.
He was shot by police and taken to Trident Hospital where he is recovering Tuesday morning.
