Man identified in deadly Goose Creek crash

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – The person who was struck dead by a vehicle in Goose Creek early Saturday morning has been identified as Esteban Cupil Lopez, 34, according to the Berkeley County Chief Deputy Coroner.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 2:40 a.m. on July 2, at the intersection of Red Bank Road and Harbour Lake Drive.

When they arrived, Lopez ran from the parking lot into Red Bank Road, where he was struct by a truck and pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities say the driver of the truck sustained no injuries.

The next of kin lived in Guatemala, so it took several days to locate and notify them.

The death was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The death was ruled accidental.
