When and where you can legally shoot off fireworks for the 4th of July

Fourth of July weekend is here and that means so are the fireworks. Before you shoot them off, we give you the breakdown of when and where it is legal to light the fuse.

We reached out to 14 different municipalities across the Lowcountry to find out their specific rules for fireworks. Here is the list:

Where fireworks are legal:
Berkeley County- Legal
Charleston County- Legal
Dorchester County- Legal
Goose Creek- Legal only on the 4th of July
Hanahan- Only legal from 10am – midnight on the 4th of July (new rule this year)
Mount Pleasant- Legal
Moncks Corner- Legal
North Charleston- Legal
Summerville- Legal only from 10AM – 1AM on the 4th of July

Where fireworks are illegal:

Charleston city limits
Folly Beach
Isle of Palms
Sullivan’s Island
DNR remands you that it is also illegal to shoot fireworks off a boat anywhere on the water

Even in those places where fireworks are legal, remember you can still get in trouble for being negligent or for being too loud at unreasonable hours.
