Travel this July 4th weekend, set to be highest on record

Charleston, S.C (WCBD)– Travel this July 4th weekend is set to be the highest on record, according to AAA. Over 43 million people across the country will be hitting the roads the during the next few days.

Whether you’re staying close to home or traveling far, South Carolina Highway Patrol wants to make sure you and your families are safe. Trooper Matt Southern asks all drivers to dial “*HP” or 911 if they encounter an erratic or overly aggressive driver on the road.

The holiday weekend is all about having a good time relaxing with family and friends and sometimes that means having a few drinks. If you plan on drinking SCHP asks you to always have a designated driver. Trooper Matt Southern says he doesn’t want your fun to be at the expense of someone else.

This year there have been 445 traffic fatalities compared to 460 last year at this time.

Despite traffic on the roadways, there is some good news to report. Gas in South Carolina is the lowest in the nation, just under $2.
