Right Reverend Edward L. Salmon, 13th Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of SC, dies at 82

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The Right Reverend Edward L. Salmon, the 13th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, died in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday, June 29. He was 82.

A Memorial Eucharist will be held Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Grace Church Cathedral. The Reverend Dow Sanderson will be the preacher.

Salmon was elected as the 13th Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina on September 9, 1989, and consecrated February 24, 1990. He served until January 2008. In retirement he continued as a member of the House of Bishops of The Episcopal Church and participated in the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City last summer. He was awarded South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto, in 1997.

He is survived by his wife Louise and two children, Catherine and Edward, III.
