BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A brand new industrial building is now available in Berkeley County. It is expected to mean additional Lowcountry jobs in the future. The North Pointe development building does not have a tenant yet, but whoever moves there will mean jobs.
The building is off North Rhett, or Henry Brown Blvd just down the street from the entrance to Tanner Plantation.
The open house was held this morning for the nearly 360,000 sq ft future distribution center or manufacturing plant.
Paxton Hollar is a senior vice-president with Suncap Property Group. “This building is being developed by Suncap Property Group. It’s through a joint venture with Westrock.”
There were games and tours of the facility for brokers and others in the business community.
“Depending on what the use is, you could have anywhere from 20 or 30 jobs up to over 100 or even hundreds actually, if you got into light manufacturing.”
Suppliers of other larger companies in the Lowcountry could be interested in this site. “Boeing, Volvo, Daimler, all those continue to grow and the supplier base is going to increase.”
Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler was at the open house. He says a building like this will help the county’s economic development department attract new business. “We know what can fit the investor who wants to come to Berkeley County and be fruitful.”
In addition to this building, they already have space next door to build another building in North Pointe Industrial Park. Company officials tell me they are already talking to multiple companies that are interested in locating at this site.
