CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The Charleston County School Board updated a cellphone policy written years ago when many kids only had pagers.
Middle and high school students are now allowed to use mobile devices during lunch in the cafeteria. Elementary students can have phones but they must stay off and hidden through the day.
Under the new policy, mobile devices may not be used to cheat on tests, violate students privacy or take photos on school property.
Teachers are no longer allowed to confiscate cellphones on sight.
