SLED investigates 23rd officer involved shooting in 2016

Horry County, S.C (SLED) – Agents of the S.C Law Enforcement Division continue work in their investigation of an incident Friday, June 24 when one man was shot and wounded in a confrontation with an Horry County Police Department officer who had responded to a suspicious vehicle call at Myrtle Beach State Park.

SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident. The independent investigation follows SLED’s guidance in conduction interviews along with the gathering and analysis of forensic evidence. Interviews are being conducted with the responding officers and others. It is unknown at this time whether there is any dash cam video of the incident.

This is an ongoing investigation. No other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time.

This incident was the 23rd officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2016 and the first this year involving an officer of the Horry County Police Department. In 2015, there were 48 officer involved shooting incidents in South Carolina, two involved the Horry County Police Department.
