American Red Cross gives FREE ice cream to blood donors

(WCBD) — Blood donors will be offered a free pint of ice cream when they come to give blood through The American Red Cross on June 23, 2016 in Mount Pleasant and Summerville.

The “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” blood drive on Thursday, June 23 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Presenting blood donors will get a coupon for a free pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, while supplies last.

  • Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Ave. in Summerville

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, according to Red Cross.

“Giving blood is a simple act, but it can have a lifelong impact on a patient in need,” said Ryan Corcoran, director of donor recruitment for the South Carolina Blood Services Region. “Please don’t let blood donation drop off your to-do list this summer. Patients are counting on us to make sure blood is available whenever and wherever it is needed.”

Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
