BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – We now know the results of the Berkeley County Council District 3 race between Ken Gunn and Elaine Barnett, an election race where state police were asked to investigate possible bribes.
Ken Gunn tells News 2 he is glad the voters decided to give him another term in office. He was facing Elaine Barnett.
We asked him if he was concerned that the SLED investigation might have a negative impact on the election, he said no.
Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis asked SLED to investigate following possible ethics violations in Berkeley County following a meeting where the sheriff discussed posted text messages between Barnett and State Representative Samuel Rivers Jr on Facebook. The messages showed alleged encouragement of Barnett to drop out of the race in exchange for a position with the county.
