CROSS HILL, S.C. (WSPA) – A man has been arrested for attempted murder after his son was shot in the head on Sunday, according to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
72-year-old Jack Wayne Hammitt was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
According to the incident report, Jack Hammitt told dispatchers that he had shot his son in the head with a .38 handgun.
When deputies arrived, they found Hammitt’s son bleeding on the bathroom floor of the Blacksgate Circle home. When they asked him what happened, he told them, “My dad shot me in the back of the head because I’m crazy.”
Deputies found two wounds in the back of his head. The victim told deputies he had been drinking and that he was schizophrenic.
Hammitt is being held in the Laurens County Detention Center without bond.
