Berkeley County deputy tases suspect, recovers more than 30 grams of marijuana from vehicle

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) — According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, deputies are searching for a suspect they say may be armed near Howe Hall Road in Goose Creek.

Deputies say they attempted to pull over the vehicle because it was missing a bumper. The driver got out of the car and took off, prompting the deputy to tase the suspect.

At that point, deputy tripped backward due to hole in pavement, and the suspect fled the scene.

Deputies say the suspect smelled like marijuana.

Cindy Smith lives in Sedgefield, just behind the Rainbow Mart. “We were still sleeping so we knew something was going on. Answered the door and there is a whole SWAT team standing there. (They) wanted to know if he knocked on the door or came through the back door. They were pretty sure that he came through our backyard.”

Officials say more than 30 grams of marijuana was recovered from vehicle.

Deputies say there was another passenger in the car, who took off when when they tried pulling the vehicle over.

K-9 units have been called into the search.

Deputies are also on scene at a convenience store at the corner of Old Back River Rd and Howe Hall Rd.
