MOORE, S.C. (AP) – The pilot of a small airplane avoided injuries when he made an emergency landing in Spartanburg County.

Multiple media outlets reported the single-engine Cessna 182 landed about 1 p.m. Monday on state Highway 290 near Moore.

Firefighters said the pilot found a vacant stretch of road when his engine stalled.

Poplar Springs Fire Department Capt. Jamie Phillips says firefighters pushed the plane onto a side road to clear the highway.

Phillips says the pilot was not hurt. The pilot’s name was not released. He would not talk with reporters.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating what caused the plane to stall.

Phillips says the pilot was the only person on board. The plane was flying from Alabama to Spartanburg.

The plane was registered to a Spartanburg aviation company.
