Coroner releases identity of man killed in shooting at North Charleston apartment complex

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Authorities are investigating following a deadly shooting at a North Charleston apartment complex.

North Charleston Police Department spokesman Spencer Pryor says just after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 30, officers responded to the The Reserve at Ashley River Apartment Homes on Dorchester Road in reference to a shooting.

We’re told officers found a man, later identified as Taundre Watkins, 25, of North Charleston,  suffering from a gunshot wound.  Medics transported Watkins to a local hospital where he later died.

Investigators say the victim and suspect were involved in an argument when, according to the suspect, the victim showed a weapon.  The suspect, fearing for his life, shot the victim, according to a news release.

Authorities say based on the facts presented at this time, no charges are being filed against the shooter.  The shooter lives at the apartment where the incident took place.
