Man leads authorities on high speed chase after stealing truck from Walterboro store

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCBD) — The Walterboro Police Department arrested a man responsible for a high speed chase after stealing a truck from a business in Walterboro.

Authorities say on Monday May 16 at approximately 10 a.m., Walterboro Police officers and Colleton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to NAPA Auto Parts after a white Ford F250 was stolen from the parking lot.

We’re told officers and deputies were led on a high speed pursuit throughout Colleton County that ended when the driver, late identified as 26-year-old David Mays, crashed into a river. He then fled the area.

Mays was charged with Grand Larceny and transported to the Colleton County Detention Center.
