CHARLESTON, SC– North Charleston police arrested and charged a man Wednesday with multiple offenses after he refused to cooperate during a traffic stop.
Officials say 50-year-old Richard Andrew Droze of Charleston is in custody and faces charges for attempted murder, failure to stop for blue lights, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of methamphetamine.
Police say Droze was driving a black 2006 Toyota Tacoma on Deerwood Avenue when he refused to stop for an officer. A car chase ensued on I-26, continued on I-526, and finally ended at Middleton Place, where a felony traffic stop was conducted.
Droze attempted to strike police with his vehicle during the stop and while attempting to flee, according to officials.
After his arrest, Droze complained about chest pains and was taken to a hospital to have a medical evaluation. He was subsequently transported to the Charleston County Detention Center where he waits for a bond hearing.
