Suspect in downtown Charleston stabbing incident in custody

CHARLESTON S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspect for the stabbing that occurred about 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the bus stop at Spring Street and Meeting Street.

Benjamin Franklin Washington, 63, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a violent crime.

Franklin and the victim were having an argument at the bus stop when Franklin pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to MUSC.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, but was arrested about two hours later on Columbus Street.

The investigation on this incident is ongoing.
