Apple’s latest iOS is ‘bricking’ some iPads, users complain

Apple‘s latest operating system update is “bricking” some iPads, users complained Tuesday.

Downloading Apple’s iOS 9.3.2 has left some iPads unusable, according to complaints on Apple’s support forum and Twitter page.

iPad users took to social media complaining that their iPad Pro or Air was stuck downloading the update for anywhere from 16 to 30 minutes without progress. Eventually, some told Apple Support they were able to wait out the download or restart their device, but owners of 9.7-inch iPad Pros complained of getting an Error 56 message instead.

It’s not uncommon for a few bugs to come along with new Apple operating systems. Early roll-outs of iOS 9.3 caused glitches for hyperlinks, while Error 56 also reared its head in some versions of iOS 9.2 for iPhone 6, when users were told to bring their device into an Apple store for a hardware problem.

Apple did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment, but Apple’s support page recommends upgrading to the latest version of iTunes, checking for snafus with third-party software or outdated and modified software, and inspecting USB cables and networks in response to Error 56.
