Charleston, SC— Tuesday is Lowcountry giving day, which means you can donate to more than 350 local non-profits. One of them thought outside the box when it comes to raising money. Technically, they thought outside the building.
Quince Cody is the President/CEO of Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. He did all of his work from their roof on Tuesday. He did it to raise money for them to get a new roof. Their goal is to raise $30,000 by the end of the day.
The Ronald McDonald house was built 32 years ago so it is showing signs of its age. The non profit gives families a place to stay when they have to travel for their kids medical treatment. Cody got out on the roof at 8am and stayed out there all day. He explained to News 2 why he wanted to do this.
“We had a recent estimate done,” said Cody. “It’s going to cost us about $100,000 to replace a roof that provies a home-away-from-home for over 32 families [at a time]. We thought today would be a great opportunity to create an act of giving, more specifically stewardship and we’re trying to raise 1/3 of that amount so I’m staying up here on the roof until we raise $30,000.
