Man breaks into unlocked vehicle; police searching for suspect

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the man seen entering an unlocked vehicle on video. In the video, the suspect is shown entering the vehicle during the night and taking some items before fleeing.

Authorities say there has been a rash of vehicle break-ins around Sumter County. Many times people are leaving items in their vehicles overnight and are not locking the doors.

Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis would like to remind residents not to leave items on car seats or where they can be seen by someone walking past. Valuable items should be carried inside at night or locked away in the trunk.

If you have any information on this incident, contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 436-2000 or (803) 436-2718.
