Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a shooting near the Walmart on Wade Hampton Blvd. in Taylors Monday evening.
SLED information officer Thom Berry says that their department sent crime scene agents to Taylors in response to a deputy involved shooting.
This all took place on Tappan Drive near a Walmart on Wade Hampton Boulevard.
A press release from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the shooting provided information that the suspect involved pointed a weapon at a deputy.
According to the Sheriff’s Department the suspect was seen walking in the area with a gun before they approached the deputies that arrived to the scene first.
The suspect was told to drop the weapon but refused to do so.
The deputy fired one round, fearing for the public as well as themselves and fellow deputies.
The deputies involved were not injured.
Once the suspect was down, he was detained and given first aid until EMS arrived to take him to the hospital.
The condition of the suspect is not known at this time.
SLED will continue to investigate this shooting, along with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department.
The deputy was placed on administrative duty, which is common procedure when involved in a shooting.
