INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump picked up Bob Knight’s support during a rally at the Indiana Farmer’s Coliseum.

The former men’s basketball coach for Indiana University led his team to three national championships. Knight told a crowd of thousands of supporters that he believes Trump is the best person for the job.

Trump took the stage after taping a Fox News town hall meeting. The New York businessman made a grand entrance.

“Normally people come out and they introduced Trump,” he said. “Well here I am and I’m introducing Bobby Knight.”

Knight urged Indiana voters to support Trump and to change history.

“You folks voting for Donald Trump and throwing him over the top. If you people will do this, you will be having our government take its first step toward what all of us wants America to be like,” said Knight.

Knight didn’t shy far away from his roots, also talking about his love for basketball and Indiana.

“I again thank you for giving me the opportunity to coach basketball in this state,” he said.

This was Trump’s second Indiana State Fairgrounds rally in the past week.

Trump brought with him momentum after winning five states on Tuesday.

“If we win Indiana, it’s over,” Trump said. “It’s over.”

Trump said Knight knows a thing or two about winning. He’s glad the former basketball coach is on board with his campaign.

He said their friendship began almost a year ago with a phone call.

“He says, ‘I want you to run, my friends all want you to run and you’ll be great and I’d like to endorse you,’” Trump said. “I said, ‘Coach, what an honor it is and give me a number and maybe I’ll be calling you back.”
