ORANGEBURG, S.C. (News Release) — SC State University will hold its spring 2016 Commencement Ceremony at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. Entertainer Sheryl Underwood will deliver the commencement address to more than 600 students during the annual ceremony.
Underwood skillfully balances the roles of in-demand entertainer, entrepreneur, movie and television actress, radio personality and philanthropist.
She is owner and chief executive officer of Pack Rat Productions, Inc. and is the 23rd international president of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., the only full-time entertainer to ever hold the sorority’s highest post.
Underwood sits alongside her co-hosts, Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Aisha Tyler, on CBS Network’s “THE TALK.” The daytime talk show averages 3.01 million viewers per day. With Underwood at the table, “THE TALK” received its first daytime Emmy nomination.
As part of “THE TALK’s” hosting team, Underwood recently received a 2016 People’s Choice award for Favorite Daytime TV Hosting Team, an NAACP Image award for Outstanding Talk Series and an exclusive feature article in PEOPLE magazine.
The sought-after public speaker serves as national spokesperson for Kimberly-Clark’s DEPEND brand Underwareness Campaign, hosts “Sheryl Underwood Radio” and recently launched a mobile app, which complements her brand.
During Underwood’s tenure as international president of Zeta Phi Beta, she worked diligently to strengthen the sorority’s partnerships with the March of Dimes, March for Babies, American Cancer Society, Text for Babies, a program with the Center for Disease Control, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association, just to name a few.
Through her company Pack Rat Productions and her foundation Pack Rat Foundation for Education, Underwood is currently raising money to support the 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the students committed to pursuing a higher education.
Underwood has been featured in Ebony magazine, ESSENCE magazine, JET magazine, Entertainment Weekly and in other major media outlets, and she has been a guest on numerous television programs including “Dr. Phil” (CBS), “The View” (ABC) and “Whose Line Is It Anyway.”
Underwood holds an associates of arts degree in liberal arts from Fresno City College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago, master’s degree in media management mass communication from Governor State University in University Park, Illinois and an attorney assistant certificate from UCLA.
