CHARLESTON, S.C. – There’s nothing surprising about these matchups. The best lacrosse teams in the lowcountry hang their helmets up at Wando and Bishop England, for boys and girls.
The Wando boys entered Tuesday’s lower state final against Bishop England as the defending state champions and No. 1 overall team in the state. The Bishops claimed the No. 3 ranking, but they had never advanced to the state championship game and the Warriors made sure that streak would continue.
The Wando boys jumped out to an 8-0 first half lead, bullying the Bishops 14-2 when it was all said and done.
On the girls’ side of the sport, it was Bishop England who owned bragging rights over Wando. The Lady Bishops defeated the Warriors during the regular season. Round two was also a close match with Bishop England holding a narrow 3-2 halftime lead, but they wouldn’t allow Wando to get over the hump as the Bishop England girls advance to the state title with a 9-7 victory over Wando.
The Wando boys will play Fort Mill for the boys’ state championship. The Bishop England girls will play Nation Ford.
